Music Monday: Alex Van Halen’s Drum Set

This week during #MusicMonday we are highlighting another hidden treasure within our 700+ pieces of memorabilia here at the Seminole Hard Rock Casino & Hotel Tampa.  Our last edition of #MusicMonday featured a signature memorabilia item from American singer-songwriter, musician and actor Neil Diamond.

Today we are sharing a customized drum set made for Alex Van Halen drummer for the American hard rock band Van Halen, which was formed in Pasadena, California, in 1972. This drum set was used throughout the “1984” tour and was used all around the world.  You can view this piece as you take the escalators down from our Draper Place Garage, located off of Orient Road.

Van Halen’s world tour promoted their new album “1984” and the band played in front of sold out crowds around the USA and Canada, as well as a few concerts in England, Germany, and Italy.

The pictured drum set was specially customized for the tour.  The TAMA Octobans were placed in front of the Simmons drums in a v-shape configuration.  This allowed the drum set to look bigger during concerts.

Fun Fact:   The album ‘1984’ was released during the month of January and is the most accomplished album of Van Halen’s era.   The album included songs such as ‘Panama’, ‘Hot for Teacher’, and ‘Jump’.
