Now that the World Burger Tour has ended, Hard Rock Cafe Tampa is introducing a brand new local legendary burger. A local legendary burger is a signature burger that each Cafe around the world creates to reflect its locations culture.
A month long contest was held internally throughout Seminole Hard Rock Tampa’s Food and Beverage department. After numerous submissions, five burgers were taste tested and voted on by Hard Rock Cafe team members. The winning burger incorporated two of Tampa’s signature traits: fresh seafood and blended spices. Hard Rock Cafe Chef Doug added these two traits to the already rockin’ Legendary Burger and the Ol’ Bay burger was born.
We sat down with Chef Doug to get the exclusive foodie details behind his creation.
What inspired you to make this burger?
The previous Local Legendary burger was a twist on a cuban sandwich, which is very prominent in the South Florida area. I wanted to incorporate something a little more close to home and the crab cake is very prominent in Tampa Bay, specifically in the Ybor area.
Tell us the what makes up the Ol’ Bay burger?
- Crab cake made with jumbo lump crab meat
- Jack Cheese
- House made 8oz burger seasoned with old bay
- Freshly sliced tomatoes
- Shredded lettuce
- House made “Davy Jones” sauce
How did you feel when you found out that your burger was chosen as Tampa’s newest Legendary burger?
I was speechless! It’s amazing knowing that one of my creations will be on the menu. It’s my biggest accomplishment at the Seminole Hard Rock Tampa so far.
