About DB|55 Derrick Brooks Charities, Inc.

Founded by former All-Pro linebacker for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Derrick Brooks, Derrick Brooks Charities, Inc strives to provide educational opportunities for socio-economically challenged youth that will instill, inspire, broaden and develop cultural and social vision outside of the walls in which they live to ensure that these young people have every chance to develop into the strong and productive leaders of tomorrow. In 1995, Brooks began his community involvement initiative. In 1997, he created the Brooks Bunch, a gathering of economically disadvantaged youth from the Wilbert Davis, Ybor City, and Brandon Boys & Girls Clubs. Through his involvement and mentoring, Brooks encouraged and motivated the children to excel in the classroom taking them on educational journeys around the world. Over the years as his involvement increased, the initial program evolved into the First and Goal college preparatory program that prepares youth ages 14 – 18 to successfully enter post secondary education and occupational training programs. Today, Derrick Brooks Charities, Inc. provides a full-spectrum of motivational educational initiatives including the Brooks Bunch Scholarship program, the Rites of Passage mentoring curriculum for disadvantaged young ladies and various youth crime prevention and deterrence programs.
