In support of our collaboration with the team, each month we will be shining the spotlight one of their rock star players. This month we kicked it with Tampa Bay Rowdies forward, Corey Hertzog who rocks number 11. Originally from Reading, Pennsylvania Corey has been playing soccer since he was four years old and during the September 5th game against the New York Cosmos, he scored the winning goal for the Tampa Bay Rowdies securing their 2-0 win.
When did you know that you wanted to play soccer competitively?
I played when I was in high school and did really well. My parents talked about it and that’s when I decided I really wanted to become a professional soccer player.
How do you enjoy Tampa and playing for the Tampa Bay Rowdies?
I am a warm weather kind of guy, so this is perfect. I played in Orlando last year, which has similar paradise weather.
How do you like living in Tampa Bay in general apart from soccer?
I love it here in Tampa – it’s got everything. When I was raised in Pennsylvania, I got to come visit Florida a couple of times. It’s cool that I’m here now and am able invite family and friends to vacation and show them all the places around here. It’s just a great city.
What do you like most about be a forward?
I get to score goals.

The home jersey is my favorite – I like the stripes.

I love it! It’s a fun sponsor to have.
What’s one moments in your career that has been a highlight?
When I was younger, my favorite player was Thierry Henry and I actually got to play with him in New York for three years and it was a dream come true.
